Mission of the University
St. Bonaventure University caters for two principal needs:
- It is an institute for the formation of young religious men in temporary profession and;
- It is a Franciscan Philosophical University for Catholic religious men and the laity.
St. Bonaventure University provides a holistic programme of post – novitiate formation which takes into account of each one’s potential and particular vocation. The religious and academic aspects of this programme are seen as inclusive and complementary. Integral to the programme is an intellectually challenging course of studies to equip the brothers for their ministry in the Church.
The institute is open to the spiritual and material needs of the universal church and of the world. It responds to the pastoral needs of the local church by sharing its resources for prayer and study. Through its various apostolic activities it serves the neighbouring Christian communities and in this way the students at the University develop the missionary goal of their Franciscan vocation.
