SBUC Students Join Catholic Students In Historic Celebration
A historic event took place on the 21st of September, 2014. For the first time our students attended a function hosted by the National Movement of Catholic Students Union (NMCS) Zambia. The main purpose was to celebrate Holy Mass as a precursor to a Pan- African Assembly meeting to be held in Zambia for the first time.
Under the umbrella of the International Movement of Catholic Students the movement aim is to unite catholic students and foster growth of Catholic students in different aspect of their lives that is spiritual, academic and social aspects. Held at the St. Eugene University Great North road campus, the main celebrant was a Capuchin friar Reverend Father Thomas. In his homily he called on the students to extend their arms in caring for each other just like Christ, who though being God, humbled himself to a most shameful death on the cross for their sake.
As part of its duties, the Pan-African movement head-quartered in Paris – France, has as its motto “Preferential treatment for the poor” and has held such meetings in Zimbabwe 1998,Togo 2002 and Rwanda 2006.
The historic meeting in Zambia will be held at the National Resources Development College (NRDC) in- service training trust in Lusaka. One hundred delegates including students and their chaplains are expected to grace the movements’ event, whose African office is in Nairobi.
Among the institutions at the Holy Mass were students from The University of Zambia, Evelyn Hone College, City College and National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA), brought together under NMCS Zambia’s motto which says “Stand together for what you believe”. Special thanks to the SBUC Rector, Reverend Friar Charles Mukuka, OFM Conventual, for the support given to us to ensure that through the Social and Cultural Committee all communities that study at SBUC were represented. The last meeting of the Movement took place in Arusha Tanzania in 2010.
